Xbmcfreak LiveCD 10.00 beta1

  • libRTMP support iPlayer BBC
  • Make MKV support (Blu-Ray)
  • Samba Windows File Sharing support
  • Proftpd support
  • Sabnzbd (nzb) and Transmission (torrent) downloading support
  • FireFly (iTunes) server toegevoegd
  • Apache frontend toegevoegd

  1. Hi
Firstly thank you very much for taking the time to put this stuff together.
Would it be possible to link the changes to details of exactly what the changes are and how to go about using them? Maybe a blog post for each item?

I see your posts regularly and I’m constantly wondering:

    a. How can I apply that to my existing installation
    b. how would I use that if I installed your live CD

I find digging through forums difficult, particularly when its difficult to see the useful info for all the thanks messages and issue resolutions. Blog posts or wiki entries can be much easier to digest. Some of this info would be best placed in the xbmc.org wiki, while others (like the libRTMP) are possibly best outside of that.

    I often read lines like:
    – advancedsettings.xml added for Nvidia ION GPU’s
    – nvclock added
    – sources.xml added
    – coretemp modules added to /etc/modules
    – libRTMP support iPlayer BBC

And would like to know what’s in these and potentially apply them to my own systems.
For example I would love to use libRTMP/iPlayer support, would you be able to provide a blog post on how you went about integrating this into xbmc live. I dont really want to have to re-build my main XBMC system so would like to know how to apply this stuff to an existing build.

  2. Looking good.. I always have 5.1 issues with whatever I try (including previous LiveCD’s, so hopefully this one works. :)

  3. Perhaps a stupid question but do i have to do a clean install or is it possible to upgrade (from “Xbmcfreak LiveCD 10.08 svn32696″)?

  4. piethein

    - remote
    - geluid over HDMI en S/PDIF
    - LAN
    - Wifi

(What Loz said above: a more detailed blog post/wiki page would be very much appreciated)

  6. I know the comments are shared between the dutch and english website, but it would be so much more useful if everybody stuck to english, atleast then you could read all the comments.. Mr. Orange mentions something about HDMI and S/PDIF, I would love to know what he was talking about, as I have particular problems around that area as well. I know I could use something like babelfish, but more than often it makes the text even less readable. :-D

So please everybody, here’s a chance to brush up on your english. ;-)

  7. Well, this is a Dutch site, but since you asked nicely:

I merely asked if these function out of the box on an Asrock 330 HT with this livecd:
    - remote
    - sound over HDMI and S/PDIF
    - LAN
    - Wifi

Answers in English are just as welcome as Dutch

  8. Thank you Mr Orange.

I know the website is hosted on a NL website, but as XBMCFreak Live CD’s are used internationally I think it would be useful for everybody if useful information was available in english. :)

  9. I was wondering when it is planned to start using either 2.6.35 kernel or Maverick? I’m asking because I’m really interested to see video acceleration (VA-API) working on Intel Core i3.

  10. Hey everybody,

How do I update from the 10.08 from August 13th? I still don’t have this Unix thing down.

  11. How about using Google Chrome and clicking the translate button? :)

Vanavond deze versie ff installeren op mijn 330HT!!! Ben benieuwd!

  12. Works on Revo r1600 well. had to add the .asoundrc file for hdmi sound but everything runs great thanks.

  13. I only get stereo sound coming through, despite the Amp saying DTS.. Can somebody please let me know where I am going wrong?

    Acer 3610.

  14. Piethein,
I would also like to ask the questions Mr. Orange asks.
I have been using your xbmcfreak iso’s for a while now, but I never saw any difference to the original xbmc live-cd, besides from the RSS feed that was coming from your site. When i load your live cd, I still have to change all the settings , like sound (to hdmi), lanquage (to dutch) , weather still in fahrenheit, no additional plugins, wifi and remote control of the ION 330 HT not working etc etc.

Am I doing something wrong or does your cd’s just not offer these changes??
It would be great for ION owners (especially the Revo r3600 and Asrock ION330 HT which I both own) to work out of the box with this ISO. My brother also just bought a ION 330HT, and got stuck right after wifi install..

    Thanks,
    Michiel

  15. is there anyway you can post a .torrent? your website is getting hit HARD, 13Kb/sec ;(?

  16. Hello, I tried the live CD and it work really great on Funtwist Fiono 330.

But I didn’t find the bluray support from the xbmc frontend (I use a big blueray drive with a Sata->USB adapter).

I d’like to use my xbmc as a real bluray player, mean that I would like to watch it in live (without the ripp process) and my movie as got a protection since it directly come from the shop.

Do someone know how I can read it?

uploaded a torrent mirror of this file if anyone wants to grab it, ill host it for a few days.

    Hi Michiel,

I’m using the old XBMCFreak-LiveCD 9.11 Ver.13 There many things where already set up for the ASRock ION330 HT, Grafik drivers, Remote, Audio, etc. Ok Wifi of course has to be set up for your Network, but beside this you have Samba, SABNZBD (hast do be set up as well), SVN things, etc. I agree that a List ab bit more detailed with all the features would be nice, but is still can’t compare this LiveCD with the original one.
I have to admid i have not tried the new CD’s since i want to wait for the full support of the ASRock ION330 :) and then add a few more things like Sickbeard with a friend to have a customised CD for me.

    KEEN

  19. KEEN :
… still can’t compare this LiveCD with the original one.

Which is exactly the problem here. While I appreciate the effort Piethein has put into this, without more information on the differences I’d rather stick with the official livecd. That way when I hit a snag it’ll be easier for the community at xbmc.org to help me figure it out.

  20. it just contains some tweaks and preinstalled services (like Samba and Sabnzbd)

  21. Hey guys, what’s the standard password for the account?
    xbmc/xbmc?

  22. @Mr.Jack
yes should be like that. After login you can login as root: “sudo su root” and password xbmc

Aanpassen of opkrassen.

  27. @Piethen: regarding – “Remarks: GPU temp for Nvidia cards isn’t displayed correctly. I’ll look into this.”

On my Acer Revo 3600 the GPU temp was showing OK, but the CPU temp was wrong. Showing 44 degrees instead of the normal 68 or so.

It looks like the Revos have a problem with the coretemp-isa-0000 bus the coretemp module reads, and the temp1_input value it returns.

I think the 2.6.32 kernels now have proper i2c bus support, so don’t need the patched coretemp any more.

The lm85 sensor settings work very well with the Revo :

Just replace `coretemp` with `lm85` in /etc/modules and you get proper output from #sensors :-

    root@telly:~# sensors
    lm85-i2c-0-2e
Adapter: SMBus nForce2 adapter at 4d00
    in0: +1.84 V (min = +0.00 V, max = +3.32 V)
    Vcore: +1.21 V (min = +0.00 V, max = +2.99 V)
    +3.3V: +3.33 V (min = +2.97 V, max = +3.63 V)
    +5V: +5.10 V (min = +4.50 V, max = +5.50 V)
    +12V: +1.00 V (min = +0.00 V, max = +15.94 V)
    fan1: 3404 RPM (min = 0 RPM)
    fan2: 0 RPM (min = 0 RPM)
    fan3: 0 RPM (min = 0 RPM)
    fan4: 0 RPM (min = 0 RPM)
    temp1: +67.0°C (low = -127.0°C, high = +127.0°C)
    M/B Temp: +42.0°C (low = -127.0°C, high = +127.0°C)
    temp3: +52.0°C (low = -127.0°C, high = +127.0°C)
    cpu0_vid: +0.000 V

The advancedsettings.xml script works fine with that output.

  28. Ok not sure why but for some reason i cant wake from USB. I enabled it already but when i suspend the only way of waking it is pressing the power button on the pc. any ideas how to fix this?

Its broken in this kernel, but a fix has been issued.

  30. @Scope
I have the Same issue since one of THE last livecds. It seems that it is not suspending, even if i set it.

  32. Hi,

The install of the last couple of 10.x CDs did not install all to well on my
Acer Aspire R3600 REVO. (I believe it is the same one that was reviewed in one of the articles on this site).
i kept getting 4 syntax errors when booting, but then everything worked fine.
Now with the beta 1 cd, the install hangs, when starting the partitioner, at 43%.
Is there a chance this going to be fixed, or do i have to go back to the 9.x CDs?
Those worked fine, but have less features.

  33. I am extremely frustrated. I am not blaming anyone. I just need some help.

Earlier in this thread I asked for a way to update from 10.08 to the Beta 1. No one chimed in, so I decided to do a clean install. I downloaded the beta and used unetbootin – just as I did with 10.08.

Now each time the install gets to “Install the system” it begins to install, gets to 7% then speeds to 100% and then up pops the main menu again.

    Thoughts?

  34. @Steven
Hrmmm. It installed fine on my REVO 3600 yesterday.

I was using a bootable thumbdrive, made with unetbootin & the XBMCfreak Live-CD ISO file rather than a physical CD & optical drive though.

Do you have anything out of the ordinary going on with your Revo HD in terms of existing partitions etc ?

  35. Fix for blackscreen in console from Ctrl+Alt+F1 or when exiting from XBMC :-

    edit `/etc/default/grub`

    change `GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep`
    to `GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1024×768@16`

run `update-grub` to copy the change to the bootloader, and after a reboot your console should be visible once more.

  36. Hi guys,

Running beta 1 on ASRock 330HT-BD and having trouble with Samba it doesn’t seem to want to start!? I am using the default smb.conf supplied with the beta.

This is what I have tried:

    nick@XBMCLive:~$ sudo status smbd
    smbd stop/waiting
    nick@XBMCLive:~$ sudo start smbd
    smbd start/running, process 16129
    nick@XBMCLive:~$ sudo status smbd
    smbd stop/waiting

No matter what I try it won’t start!! Any ideas?

  37. @Nick
What does it say in /var/log/samba/smbd.log ?

  38. @kurai
Thanks for the pointer I discovered that there is no xbmc user account on my XBMC install for some reason and samba was trying to use it as the guest account and failing because it couldn’t find it. Edited the smb.conf to use another user as guest and now it works!

Why would there be no xmbc user account? Was I supposed to add this at install when it asked for a user name?

  39. Is anyone aware that TV scraping has been broken for some time now? Still broken in xbmc freak beta 1. As in, it will scrape anything that has an nfo file beside it, but nothing else. Not sure if is the same for movies. I’d appreciate any feedback on this.

  40. HELP GEVRAAGD

  41. @Quentin Jackson
Might just be an isue with TheTVDB.com – they’ve been having availability/load issues for the last week or so.

Other than that, I don’t use .nfos for TV and it’s been scraping fine (when TheTVDB.com is up)

  42. @Mr. Orange
I’m afraid i have to agree with Mr. Orange.
If the livecd would be just a bit more tweaked (only working Wifi and nuvoton remote drivers would be enough) then it would be doable for people to install without any linux / terminal / nano / pico hacking..
I now have problems installing the remote drivers, so I’m stuck again without having to do a indepth linux course on installing dkpt apt-get etc etc ..

  43. Hey zijn er geen betere download mirrors?
    Deze is zooooo traag :(

  44. Fix anders een paar Rapidshare of Megaupload linkjes plz :) danku

  45. I had the beta installed on my Asrock ION 330 HT-BD but after a reboot I get 4 errormessages and a black screen.
De Asrock is inresponsive so there’s no boot at all and no possibility to get into the console.

    What’s wrong with my install?

    P.S. 9.11 v14 works perfectly.

  46. Rob Cunningham

I am getting the same result on a Zotac Zbox. I noticed the flash drive i’m trying to boot from is getting accessed during this entire black screen.

  47. Rob Cunningham

Interesting… I should have waited a bit longer. While it does show the 4 error messages very briefly like Sjaool, it then sits at a black screen for about 90 seconds before booting normally. Not sure why, I guess it will work for now, but something must be a bit off.
