    im having trouble trying to install this to a hard drive on my zotac ion HTPC. I used UNetbootin to install the ISO, I set my bois to boot from USB drive, but it doesn’t give me option to install to Hard drive only boots from USB drive :( …. what am I doing wrong…

  2. Works great on startup but several issues after wake from standby.

    Remote doesn’t work
    Weather is way off
    Can no longer ssh in

    Thanks for all hard the work!

  3. Dragondk says:

    @Flomaster
    Just made the same mistake (i think)
    Usb stick system 32, not ntfs… ;-)
    Good luck.
    And to the developers, tnx for the great and constant work on this excellent product.

  4. Flomaster says:

    @Dragondk
    I formatted my usb stick FAT32 then used UNbootin
    I then selected the xbmcfreak ISO and it did its thang.

    but in the past when installing XBMCfreak LIve cd I recall it asking if I wanted to run it from the usb stick or install to hard drive. this one just runs from the stick with no option to install to hard drive.

  5. carlsberg says:

    Does any1 know how to get HD audio or if it is possible ??

  6. pallec says:

    @Flomaster and Dragondk

    Use LinuxLive USB Creator 2.8.8 then it works, used it on all my installs.

  7. babbalone says:

    Hello,

    I triyng live version with my ASRock ION 3D 152B, but I have any problem with audio.

    On my installed old XMBC I have: HDMI 2.1 and HDA Nvidia hdmi (also as passthrough device) and it works fine.

    How can I set new XBMC?

    Thanks

  8. iGadget says:

    Impressive… this works WAY better with my ION330 than my old Dharma install on Ubuntu 10.04. Audio over HDMI works out of the box… great stuff!

    Did run into a few issues though:
    -A lot of video plugins don’t work (i.e. National Geographic). You see the first frame of the video and the audio plays for about 3 seconds, but then it stops. Timer stays at 0:00.
    -Sometimes I manage to hang the system while navigating through my collection. Have to hard reboot to recover.
    -Video’s with 5.1 AAC audio are mixed down to 2.0

    What can I do to help debug these problems?

  9. Flomaster says:

    @Pallec
    you are my hero….I searched high and now to figure out how to install from usb to HDD and the only thing I could find was UNetbootin…. this LinuxLive USB install did the trick… many thanks from me. I can now get out of the dog house I was banished to after I fugged up the HTPC and no kids movies or TV series could be watched.

  10. Just installed v30 on my Acer Revo 3610. It looks and sounds way better than I could ever get it!

    One deal-breaker for me though is the compute-bound process taking up a full core. It causes the fan to spin very loudly, and I just can’t have it like
    Any help would be appreciated!

    ASRock ION330 w TeVii DVB-S2 USB S660 @ Samsung LE40B679
    Installed v30 yesterday:
    - again font issues during install (“Next” / “Weiter” buttons’ position is beyond the window size)
    o copied usb-dvb-s660.fw to /lib/firmware
    o rsynced back my .hts and .xbmc profile copies into /home/xbox
    o installed HTS Tvheadend (creates user hts however reads config from user xbox path, now)
    o changed /etc/init.d/tvheadend as such
    replaced “-u hts” by “-u xbox”
    added a delay to ensure TeVii S660 is ready (see details at http://blog.bokhorst.biz/2991/computers-and-internet/ubuntu-htpc-with-satellite-tv/ section Install Tvheadend)
    o adopted LIRC config to the TeVii’s build in IR, though it seems to be a bit unstable

    In general works as expected

  14. @odoll,

    Why do you need to copy the hts to xbox? Can’s you work around this by changing hts’s config?

  15. @odoll,

    I’ll add the hts-tvheadend package by default for the next version of XBMCbuntu. Can please let me know if the issue occurs the next time?

  16. Hans says:

    I just installed v30 from ISO which went fine, except that the crystalhd card was not recognized. I had to install the driver from git before it worked (followed instructions from http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Broadcom_Crystal_HD, using http://git.linuxtv.org/jarod/crystalhd.git). After installing the drivers everything seems to work fine.

  17. odoll says:

    @Piethein,

    re copying .hts to /home/xbox/. With my previous installations attempt I ran into the issue, that tvheadend didn’t find the config in /home/hts (see e.g. https://www.lonelycoder.com/redmine/boards/4/topics/3405). For what ever reason it worked when I restarted tvheandend and put the config into the user’s xbox path.

    re TVHE pre-packaged: sure will do and will let you know

    BTW: thanks a lot for your hard work so far!

    Asrock ION 330 / Installed XBMCfreak v30

    LCDproc is causing some shutdown problems. I had this problem with version 9 of the live-cd but i now found out that this was causing it.

    Did not had this problem before installing LCDproc.

    When i try turning the htpc off it i have to eventually manually shutdown the htpc because it won’t shut-down correctly.

    Any way i can force it to continue shutting down even if LCDproc wont turn off ? On the display it says ‘LCDProc server running 0 clients’.

  19. Lorewin says:

    Remote not working on resume – I’ve worked around this on my Ion setup by modifying the lirc suspend/resume script in /etc/pm/sleep.d/ to unload (rmmod) ir_lirc_codec and lirc_dev on suspend, and reload (modprobe) them on resume.

  20. BugBoy says:

    I have an Asrock ION 330HT, but I use an external MCEUSB IR receiver (so I can keep my Asrock out of sight). It works fine, but when I suspend the system I cannot resume it using the MCEUSB receiver (Asrock’s own IR receiver works fine).

    I already enabled the USB0 and USB2 wakeup by adding:

    echo USB0 > /proc/acpi/wakeup
    echo USB2 > /proc/acpi/wakeup

    It worked with the XBMC 9.11 Live installation, but the IR range was very limited. This was due to the low power mode of the USB port when in standby/suspend mode. I hoped this was fixed in recent kernel builds, but I cannot get it to work. Can anyone help me out?

  21. DragonFly says:

    @Lorewin

    Could you elaborate? i.e. paste the script.

  22. Xander Hoose says:

    I have a question: I am currently running XBMCbuntu v30 on my nVidia ION 330-setup. I just ordered a Fusion (AMD E-350) motherboard. Can I just swap these motherboards out and expect XBMCbuntu to boot like nothing has happened, or do I need to do a clean reinstall?

  23. Morpheus65535 says:

    @BugBoy

    You can solve your problem by following these instrustions:

    http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MCE_Remote#S3_.2F_Suspend_To_RAM
    Section: From Ubuntu/Mythbuntu 10.10 onwards

    Good luck!

  24. Lorewin says:

    @DragonFly – for the resume script, check out http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO:Create_a_resume_script – you do need to check which specific lirc driver your setup is using (as mentioned, mine were ir_lirc_codec and lirc_dev).

  25. HeyRatFans says:

    I got my MCE remote to work (touch wood) by doing two things.

    First step was to follow the instructions on the MythTV Wiki that Morpheus65535 linked to. I had to add BOTH these lines mentioned to /etc/rc.local:

    echo “USB0″ > /proc/acpi/wakeup
    echo enabled > /sys/bus/usb/devices/3-1/power/wakeup

    (Your settings will be different, DON’T blindly copy and paste what I have written here. Go to the MythTV Wiki and find out what you really need to add!)

    And secondly, I had to DELETE the already included 99-lirc script from /etc/pm/sleep.d/ as with that still in place, although the remote would resume from S3, it would die once the machine was awake, necessitating a reboot to get it working again.

  26. BugBoy says:

    @Morpheus65535: Thanks very much. That fixed it…

  27. pallec says:

    v30 with beta 2 is only troubles for me :(

    Crashes all the time with starting a series with audio and dont show any video and then the hole computer just hangs, Have to hard power off and reboot again to get it to work.

    im going back to v25.

  28. WILD9 says:

    @HeyRatFans

    Thanks for the 99-Lirc script tip, that fixed my non functional remote after suspend perfectly!

  29. I wrote a script to enable wake on usb on all ports. If someone can have a look at it, please. You can add it to the rc.local script for the time being, just like HeyRatFans suggested. I’ll add it to the next version of the livecd.

    #!/bin/bash
    for i in $( lsusb | awk '{print $6}' | cut -d \: -f 2 | sort | uniq ); do
    for j in $( grep $i /sys/bus/usb/devices/*/idProduct | cut -d'/' -f 6); do
    echo enabled > /sys/bus/usb/devices/$j/power/wakeup
    done
    done

    @Maarten
    On 25 Januari 2012 19:10 you posted: “Ps. Bluray is working out of the box now, thanks for adding the libbluray1 package”.
    What exactly do you mean by this?
    Do you just have Bluray ISO’s playing out of the box or also commercial Bluray Discs with the MakeMKV Bluray Addon?
    I am still trying to get commercial Bluray Disc playing working. But for now to no avail…!!
    It’s really driving me nuts!
    How to get this working?
    Please, anybody got this working with v30…?!
    Have installed MakeMKV Bluray Addon through installing ZIP mentioned in first link on this thread:

    http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=67420

  32. Got it running on my Zotac ION board which has always had issues with HDMI over audio. I modded it to have a GT430 PCIx1 on the PCIx16 slot for video quality and the original HDMI died. It works on Win7

    Was able to load v30 when using a normal DVI monitor. When hooked up to Panasonic GT30 TV it did not get past Linux initialization.

    EDID overwrite would be a nice feature, would like to passthough DTS audio though TV’s audio out. TV says it can only handle stereo audio in Win7. Exiting to GNOME or desktop would be sweet too.

    Hope XBMCLIVE can leverage your work. Great work and progress!

  33. update, I made the mod when the original HDMI audio died.. I hate this zotac.. my other zotac has no issues with XBMCLIVE

  34. DragonFly says:

    @ piethein

    Your script is causing an error (in my case, that is) preventing other commands to execute in rc.local if they are beneath your code in the script.

    I’m getting this:
    cannot create /sys/bus/usb/devices/5-2/power/wakeup: Directory non existent

    When checked there is no “wakeup” in /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.3/usb5/5-2/power/

  35. What about this script:

    DEVICES=$(dmesg | grep input: | grep usb | grep -vi mouse| awk -F/ '{ print $4}')

    for device in $DEVICES
    do
    usbPort=$(cat /proc/acpi/wakeup | grep $device | awk '{ print $1}')
    usbStatus=$(cat /proc/acpi/wakeup | grep $usbPort | awk {'print $3}')
    if [ "$usbStatus" = "*disabled" -o "$usbStatus" = "disabled" ]; then
    echo $usbPort > /proc/acpi/wakeup
    fi
    done

  36. DragonFly says:

    The above code executes whitout error, however is does not achieve the desired result.

    In my case the script needs to find:
    Bus 004 Device 002: ID 1509:9242 First International Computer, Inc. eHome Infrared Transceiver

    A “cat /sys/bus/usb/devices/4-2/power/wakeup” now outputs “disabled”

  37. DragonFly says:

    This is a crosspost from the OpenElec forum and explains why I’m getting random High CPU values.

    Unjustifiable high CPU usage due to DDS fanart:

    I’ve noticed this not only using Openelec (9725 generic), but also using XBMCbuntu v30 (XBMCfreak.nl).

    Tested on a clean install, I’d have XBMC scan a directory of some 18 HD movies (using IMDB as a scraper with fanart on) to add it to the video library. It would then take some minutes to create the necessary tbn files in the thumbnail directory. So far so good.

    Whenever is set to true and one would browse newly made Movie Library, XBMC immediately begins to create DDS fanart. The thing is it takes a disproportionate time to create just 18 dds files, some 8 minutes in my case. All this time the debug shows that the CPU hits a full blown 100% (XBMC-CPU well over 160 %)

    If an unaware user would enter his library with some 50 movies, scroll up and down a bit and start playing a movie, depending on his CPU power and the number of files to be converted, the debug log overlay would show a significant high CPU usage during the first minutes of playback. (can last 10 minutes or more).
    I was unaware of the phenomenon until I heard my computer fans blow like crazy, just trying to play a movie. Only by turning on the debug log things became clear.

    Because the creation of dds files is very CPU consuming, it could cause inconsistencies during playback like stuttering and jittering, which are NOT caused by incorrect rendering (VDPAU) or any other cause discussed in this forum, but just because the HTPC is just very busy doing something else.

    Setting to false resolved all problems.
