Tried two different USB drives and get this message after I choose to install XBMC:
Invalid or corrupt kernel image.
I have the previous stable (Frodo) release of xbmc ubuntu..
can I just do ‘apt-get update’ ‘apt-get upgrade’ and upgrade to this release? Or do I have to add a new repository / or do something else? I just don’t want to re-install the whole system just to be able to upgrade to latest xbmc…

its looking more and more like a 25th of Dec release date for the finial XBMC frodo.

@ustaaa: I tried upgrading from V7 using the commands above, but it didnt work for me.. I ended up re-installing, re-configuring, etc.
I have an old machine, MSI K7T Turbo motherboard, 1.5GB SDRAM and a radeon hd 2400 pro amd agp, it works perfectly in xbmc eden. But I can not seem to install this version cdrom: usb boot failure and I ended up on a command prompt ms-dos kind. With the same cdrom and usb newest machine it works very well.
I have the same problem with the alpha version
I get a number of Fatal errors when I try to install, tried twice..
Im not sure if this iso is different from the xbmcbuntu available from xbmc.org, but I get the same errors there aswell.. I am unable to install both ISOs. I have installed a number of ISOs in the past and never had any problems.
Is there an easy way to upgrade previous stable version (eden) xbmcubuntu to this? I tried apt-get update, apt-get upgrade and it does not upgrade the system. Can I do dist-upgrade or the only way to get to this is to full re-install?

have been running Xbmc and Xbmcbuntu on my Zotac AD-hd01 for a long time, have had many different betas installed, but when i got to this one, it seems to have some files missing in the /casper directory ?
Anyhow, went back to pre-beta01 release, installed great, had alot easiyer time getting sound running via hdmi. so no problems there.
Imidiatly it startet running 100% on one of the cpu cores, and after running about 5 minuts on a tv episode, temperature jumped from normal 60°C to about 80°C so did not dare runnig more tests for fear of overheating the cpu.
Same problem here, i cant install this version.

Na het opstarten en scherm van unetbootin gekozen voor de opties XBMCbuntu proberen zonder installeren, daarna kreeg ik gelijk wat waarschuwingsregels aangezien ze even snel weer weg waren kon ik hier geen foto van nemen. Na een 30 tal seconden kreeg ik volgende meldingen te zien

Same for me, I’m also not able to install this version. Error-message is the one Mitch mentions.
hi there i have the same issue. trying to install on ASROCK ION330HT. Can it not be installed on this hardware?
Yep, same here too… “file not found error” when trying to install, the pre-beta gives no install issue…

I think I found a solution:
Simply rename the “initrd.img-3.2.0-33-generic-pae” to “initrd.lz”.
I was able to install after I did this

Beta 1 v2 works fine, no FATAL errors.
xbmcbuntu-12.00-beta1_v2.iso doesn’t have any fatal errors but doesn’t boot to XBMC at all. What could be causing that?
@John: Try to install it again.. I had that happen to me the first time as well.. Now it is fine.
Het installeren van de nieuwe xbmcbuntu-12.00-beta1_v2 versie ging als een zonnetje, nu nog samba aanpassen en SABnzbd installeren. Audio werkt gelijk out of de box en dat was vroeger wel anders.
Morgen maar eens verder kijken wat er allemaal nieuw is

The UI doesn’t load when passing the signal through my hdmi receiver. I get a UI when connected directly to the TV but the video is choppy and reports a 0.0 refresh rate.
Yes I tried updating on my G540 box and it also has issues, the gui feels very weird (maybe slow?) and then it’ll glitch and blank the screen once in a while, I deleted and reinstalled wsnipex-v6.iso.
I tried the version 2 beta, I manage to install but vaapi and xbva not work. Whereas with eden vaapi works well and works well with xbva the last alpha version. Brief with the beta 1 version 2 the acceleration does not work, all with a radeon hd 3850
Weird problem, after reboot the audio card is not recognized anymore, and I have to install again on my zotac hd-id11 never had this issue before! Video playback is very good, no samba issues only audio (new engine?)

For those with the 100% cpu on one core issue I’ve seem to have fixed in on my acer revo r3610.
I tried several fixes nothing seemed to work. Openelec had something about the timezone and BIOS clock setting causing issues, RSS feed nothing seem to fix the one core pegging out sometimes 2 even at idle. final solved it but setting sync to vblank in the system – video settings then exit, login to XBMCbuntu and in the nvidia setting check it as well. Log out and back into XBMC you’ll see a drop instantly. Got my running 30% at idle now which isn’t perfect but a lot better then 100% all the time.
DVD Menus on iso files seem to be broken.
They have been for a while and I have tracked it down to here:

They work on Mac OS X, so i think it has to do with how xbmc is compiled via libdvdnav. Anyway we can compile it like ppa:nathan-renniewaldock/xbmc-stable does?
I also have the Invalid or corrupt kernel image error, with either beta1 or the repack version. I have no clue how to solve this. I’ve tried using unetbootin instead of Lily, but both options end up the same: Invalid or corrupt kernel image
Anyone any ideas how to overcome this??
Im getting sound on the spdif when playing dts or ac3 sound, but with aac or stereo im only getting sound through the hdmi.. Any idea?
