Hi guys!
I’ve just installed XBMCbuntu 11.0 – XBMCfreak edition v5 and I want to go to the terminal.
When I installed the system I created the user weasel with a password ***** that I wrote down.
When I go to the terminal, with alt+ctrl+f1, I can’t login with weasel/*****. I also tried xbmc/”emtpy” and xbmc/xbmc without luck.
The same thing, of course, happens when I try to use ssh to connect.Any ideas?

April 27, 2012 at 15:05 #14574I’ve also tried to start the system i recovery mode and setting the password with passwd but then I get the following error message: authentication manipulation token error
April 29, 2012 at 12:58 #14575The same here, nothing is working. I can’t ftp and i can’t login to the terminal with any combination of username and password. It work fine in LiveCD 10 Dharma but now nothing is working except for xbmc itself. This is not whatI expect from a system, as far as i’m concerned i’m always root with my own credentials on my own system. So please reply to weasel and me how to fix this.
April 29, 2012 at 20:05 #14576I have tried fresh installs of Xbmcfreak V4 and V5 and I get the same problem. I cannot login with any account.

May 8, 2012 at 03:01 #14588I’ve created an account and it’s worked fine for me. You aren’t using any weird characters in your password are you, like @ or # ?
May 8, 2012 at 07:25 #14589I only used 0-9 and a-z.
May 8, 2012 at 07:27 #14590Yesterday I chose to skip XBMCFreak and did an installation of XBMCbuntu and that worked just fine so I’m sticking to that.
May 8, 2012 at 07:29 #14591Like weasel, only plain characters and numbers.
May 9, 2012 at 04:12 #14592very odd. I’ve installed it like 4 times now on 2 diff machines, no issues. I create an account on the install process, xbmc/xbmc for a user/pass – no issues. Are you able to log into the system with the root account? I’d be interested to see what the system logs say..
May 16, 2012 at 18:42 #14596I just installed the latest XBMCFreak v5. But I also can’t login.
May 16, 2012 at 21:02 #14597and you created a user account on the setup?
May 16, 2012 at 21:07 #14598YEP. only characters and numbers as password.
When reinstalled with a user/password: xbmc/xbmc it is working….
May 16, 2012 at 21:08 #14599I always install with that u/p – I’ll try again and play with it, see what happens. Odd. At least there is a work around.
June 5, 2012 at 21:01 #14619I experienced the same issue installing XBMCBUNTU on three different machines. Each with a different username used during install and a different password. I discovered that the password is xbmc by default regardless of what you set in setup but using the same username created during the install. Once you login using your username created during install and the password ‘xbmc’ use sudo passwd (username) to change the password
