The XBMCFreak Ubuntu repository is up and running! Use at your own risk! If you want use XBMC SVN packages do the following:
wget http://xbmcfreak.binkey.nl/xbmcfreak.gpg
sudo apt-key add xbmcfreak.gpg
sudo pico /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.list.list
For ubuntu 9.10 choose karmic. For 10.04 use lucid:
deb http://xbmcfreak.binkey.nl/ubuntu lucid main
deb-src http://xbmcfreak.binkey.nl/ubuntu lucid main
Do apt-get update and dist-upgrade after changing the config files. I would like to remind you to reinstall the nvidia drivers after updating the kernel.
Any chance you could sneak in an svn build with the swf verification patch?
http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-boxee-iview/
That would be awesome!
How are these packages different from the xbmc-svn ppa ? Just curious.
@dave
swf verification for xbmc on linux is addressed here
http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/8971
I’ve tried it on ubuntu and it works like a charm.
It will be eventually added to svn.
Anyway, the best build at the moment would be Live CD based on Ubuntu Lucid with this awesome patch addressed.
Secondly, I didn’t see and option to install livecd on usb stick with permanent storage file?
That is a must if you plan to use xbmc on usb stick, or stick will die in 2-3 months.
Cheers and keep up the great work!
It’s highly appreciated
Hm, does comments work properly?
I’ve posted more than hour ago, nothing happens…
Well, it works now, but my previous post is missing.
Anyway, I forgot what I was about to post, so I will just congrats you
on a great job you’re doing.
Wish you all the best.
P.S. Looking forward to next release of Livecd r28256 based on Lucid
Heh, I see my post now
What about 64bit? I tried to update, got an error, checked and it’s only for i386. Am I missing something?
Won’t be building for x64 at this moment.
Hello,
I installed this repo. It is working fine. Only one thing is confusing for me. Looks like this new build change the skin settings. Before you have ~/.xbmc/skin and XBMC read all skins there. In this latest build i see addon folder and enabled addons. How i can add Aeon skin to the addons? Also SVN Repo Installer is not working. Is there some fix I can do? Thanks for repsonse
The new xbmc doesn’t use addons/skins/plugins/etc like the old one does.
They are now all managed through the (included) addons manager. However because this is development release, there are no additional addons available yet. You are going to have to wait for the developers to release the new addon repositories before you can use them.
Most of the existing addons/etc are not backward compatible with this development version.
Hi,
Tried the above steps.
Keep getting two errors
1. it fails on dist-upgrade command ? Do I need to run apt-get dist-upgrade ?
2. If I run apt-get install xbmc or apt-get install xbmc-live I keep getting an error for a dependency.
Confused
Appreciate your help in updating. The last SVN update I have is from March 1
Thanks
Hey,
Net de SVN sources toegevoegd en update en dist-upgrade gedaan. Alles wordt netjes geupdate maar na de herstart krijg ik de melding:
XBMC needs hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering.
Install an appropriate graphics driver.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
xbmc-live: Depends: xbmc-standalone (= 1:9.11+svn30178-karmic1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
Het eerst proberen te installeren van xbmc-standalone geeft weer andere dependency problemen. Ik kan zo steeds verder terug gaan totdat ik uiteindelijk de volgende melding krijg:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
xbmc-bin: Depends: libvdpau1 but it is not installable
E: Broken packages
Iemand enig idee hoe dit opgelost moet worden?
Bedankt!
Video driver can be solved here -> http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=74935&highlight=install+nvidia+driver but afterwards I still get the dependency errors and VDPAU errors that Speedy got.
I’ll wait for a new release as a LiveCD to get the add-on framework…
Is this repository updated at all, how do I do if i wnat latest xbmc freak on a regular ubuntu install?
Any confirmation that this repo is maintained (up to date with latest svn release?)?
Hi, the repository is not accessable (http://xbmcfreak.binkey.nl/ubuntu/dists/lucid/Release Unable to find expected entry main/binary-armel/packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Ok, no response, will try build itself the xbmc-bin package
Give up…
