Yesterday I also replaced the *normal* XBMCFreak livecd version with a improved one. To summarize: At the moment there are two xbmcfreak livecd versions based on beta2. A stable one which shares most of the code with the livecd found on xbmc.org. Difference is that a number of services and scripts were added.
Edit: The livecd can only be used for installation purposes. I’m investigating why the live mode doesn’t work when booting from usb or cd.
And second unstable xbmcfreak livecd version. This version contains a newer kernel and very last nvidia drivers. Usage at your own risk.

i have some problems with smb shares. I most of the time play files from my network hdd. On this release after reboot i get error “Connection timed out, programs programs”. After i delate my userdata folder and restart xbmc i could add smb source, but after reboot again the same error. Any idea why?

Niek, that key you referring to is the backslash key. I pressed that one accidentally a few times. It switches XBMC back to Windowed mode, but also causes it to loose focus. You can fix that by attaching a mouse and then changing the resolution and window mode under System->Video.
