XBMCbuntu preview version – git20120111 edition

Here’s another version of XBMCbuntu. The packages in used in this version come from Mario Sitz. These are the latest packages and should be more stable than beta 1. The issue with the small fonts and installer on Nvidia ION systems and televisions is still present in this release.

Update 13 January 2012, version v27 with the following fixes/changes:

  • Latest package from master, pre beta 2.
  • Fixed “ERROR: Unable to open audio mixer” on most of the systems, due to new XBMC package.
  • Libmpeg2 added to fix dvd menu playback.
  • ethtool added.
  • Pink background on openbox fixed.

    @Sjors

    It is 32 bit.

  4. Daniel says:

OK. Tried v27 now and it opens on my P4.

  5. Sjors says:

hmmz, that’s bit of waste for my 8 gb ddr3 ram.

Will there be a way to upgrade it to a 64 bit version? Or use the packages of this xbmcbuntu with a 64bit ubuntu version?

  6. twilightzone says:

like it so far. The ion installer on a tv isn’t legible but by version 27 you remember what the questions are :)

not sure what the purpose of that file is can it be deleted or should i be editting custom settings into it. If I add my custom keyboard.xml file it doesn’t work I’m actually editting the /usr/share/xbmc/system/keymaps/ one instead to work with my MCE remote.

    Hey.

I think ive found a bug, its a weird one and i hope someone else is gonna see it.

When i watch a series lets say “Ringer” the logo for the channel displays in the right lower corner of the screen like it always does.
Now to the weird part .. if the camera is following someone or if someone walks past the camera the logo flickers, same if the camera panoramas quickly. I have tested with 9.11 and it don’t have this problem, tested different nvidia drivers same problem. I dont thinks its the nvidia driver so it must be something in xbmc/ubuntu.

  8. AJ1000 says:

    @Sjors

The whole point of xbmc is that you don’t need a high spec to run it. 8 gb of ram is serious overkill, and xbmc will run easily with 2GB to 4 GB of RAM as long as you have the correct video card, that does hardware acceleration.

    Hurrah! v27 works on my ASROCK ION330HT w TeVii S660 USB-DVB-S2

It’s still a bit tricky as the “Weiter” buttons are still “outside your view” on my Samsung TV during install (I even don’t know it’s “Weiter” as I just see a small portion of the button – anyway).

However another somewhat OT question: I’m having trouble with HTS TVheadend. Is this an 11.10 issue?

I set it up and it created a user “hts” and the initial file at /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/superuser.

I does not create a default pwd for “hts”? Nor does it add “hts” to the group “video”?

    To get a bit more output I added a debug flag to “DAEMON_ARGS=”-d -f -u hts -g video”" in the start-stop-script /etc/init.d/tvheadend.

When I boot the system tvheadend starts, but I can’t connect as as can’t find its config:

    xbox@XIon:~$ cat /var/log/syslog | grep tvheadend
Jan 16 20:43:31 XIon tvheadend[1056]: START: No configuration path set, settings and configuration will not be saved

Jan 16 20:43:32 XIon tvheadend[1056]: AVAHI: Service ‘Tvheadend’ successfully established.

If I restart it, it works, however it reads its config file from /home/xbox rather than /home/hts ?!?

    xbox@XIon:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/tvheadend restart
    [sudo] password for xbox:

  11. Peter says:

Any possibility that WiFi will work out of the box on this version of XBMCUbuntu? Just by filling in your wifi stuff in XBMC and by not having to work in Linux? I have never succeeded in getting my WiFi work… :)

I’m on version 23 (New Years Edition). Is there a way to upgrade to this version using apt-get update, apt-get upgrade or apt-get install xbmc?? Or… do I have to install a fresh copy of this version 27 edition??

    Thanks.

I though Eden was able to mount Bluray .iso files but I can’t seem to get the latest XBMCbuntu build to play a bluray .iso. any ideas?

  17. Sjors says:

Is this version already able to play h264 with 5.1 profile?

I get a lot of artifacts on my system.

  18. DragonFly says:

  19. Mitch says:

    @DragonFly

“This should be an issue with all linux distributions. On live you can change drives backwards and forwards and try to change things.

But on another note, this is currently being worked on, FernetMenta has started a complete re-write of VDPAU. This will most likely solve all these problems. But we have no clue when it will be ready for testing, or even better, stable. It’s a really big job, and will require allot of work.”

    ASROCK ION330HT

    Installation:
Installation of v27 went well. Installation menu perfectly readable on Philips LCD TV through HDMI. Scary ‘blackout’ somewhere halfway the process though. Resisted the urge to restart and it came up again by itself.

    First impressions
First impressions very very impressive in terms of speed and new features. No overkill, just the expected improvements to Dharma.
Sound over S/PDIF works out of the box, with system sounds as well. Sound over HDMI not tested.
Only thing not working immediately was playback of any video file (rather important feature ;) ). Videos (SD VOBs, MKV’s) stopped playing randomly after only a few minutes after which XBMC restarted (fast).
Also got error messages indicating loss of network connection. Obvious measures did not work (checking cables, shares).

sudo apt-get upgrade finally did the trick. Now I am one happy puppy as everything works fine and better than Dharma Live.

SD movie image quality has improved quite considerably, with more saturation, blacker blacks (might be my imagination, but anyway I have nothing to wish for now).

  22. Comsat says:

And this is the first Live version which I can power up and shut down with my remote!

  23. Comsat says:

Mine is an Asrock ION3D too, not 330HT as mentioned. I will check for the CPU load problem when playing HD.

  24. adgr says:

I have Eden running on Asrock ION330 and on ION 3D 152D.
On both systems CPU load never goes high (highest I have seen is 8% before dropping back to 2-3% on the ION3D) with any SD or HD content. Tested up to 1920×1080 with 5.1 DTS Bluray ripped movie and no high CPU load.

  25. Mitch says:

    @adgr

Als een nieuwe versie uit ( v28 of versie van Eden Beta 2) is, zal ik het nog eens gaan uitproberen.

  26. Chris Bebek says:

I’m still running XBMCFreak Maverick (V2). Is it possible to upgrade to this build? I tried the standard “add unstable XBMC PPA” but was left with a blank screen.

  27. mesh says:

    Hi!

Can anyone confirm for me problem with VAAPI and vsync always on option in XBMC?
If I enable vsync I get a kind of video stutter on my ATI 5450 rig. When vsync is off then everything is smooth but I get picture tearing sometimes…
