XBMC 10.00 beta4 is out!

Beta4 is almost there: http://trac.xbmc.org/changeset/35068

Linux users can upgrade by performing an apt-get upgrade. Linux livecd and windows packages will appear soon on the ftp of xbmc.org.

For the Maverick users there’s some good news! The XBMC 10.00 beta4 packages can be installed as well. Just be sure that the following lines are added to the apt sources list:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu maverick main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu maverick main

Top.

  4. mduijm says:

volg deze stappen om te upgraden:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc-svn/ppa
    sudo apt-get clean
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install xbmc
    sudo reboot

  5. Paul says:

  6. mootumno says:

Still not on xbmc.org yet :-)

Am hoping the new live fixes the kernel-level suspend/resume issues that live-beta2/3 had

  7. Bazzzman says:

After these beta updates, we move on to the release candidates rc1, rc2 ??
Then it will take a little while, before we have the stable release…. :-(

But I prefer a good working system, then buggy, so keep up the good work !!!!

  8. adgr says:

    @Bazzzman
The beta releases already work very well.

  9. Jimmy says:

Are you sure that the Maverick build is available? The PPA shows that both the amd64 and i386 builds failed.

  10. remco says:

unable to locate package xbmc :(
    iemand een oplossing?

  11. ramon de klein says:

Is beta 4 based on Ubuntu Maverick (10.10) or an older Linux version? I am also curious which Linux kernel ships on the live CD and if the Asrock ION 300HT remote is supported out-of-the-box.

  12. adgr says:

When logging in on a terminal after upgrading to Dharma Beta 4 the following is displayed:
    Linux XBMCLive 2.6.32-24-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Thu Sep 16 14:17:33 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS – XBMCLive Dharma

    So, no Maverick 10.10

  13. adgr says:

    @remco
Make sure /etc/apt/sources.list is correct and up-to-date, if it is not run:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc-svn/ppa
    Then install with following commands:
    sudo apt-get clean
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install xbmc

    Worked perfectly on my Asrock.

  14. remco says:

I’ve done that. If i change maverick into lucid. then update I can find a xbmc version. because I need xbmc to watch a movie I have installed that one. it works. but I would rather a version specifically for 10.10.

  15. ramon de klein says:

I really don’t understand why the XBMC team doesn’t upgrade to 10.10. I understood that start-up time is way faster with 10.10, so that would be a huge benefit. Also the v2.6.32-24 kernel is a bad default for Asrock users, because Asrock doesn’t provide drivers for that kernel (only 2.6.32-23 and 2.6.32.25). I think we need some experimenting (again).

@Piethein: Do you think you will provide an XBMCfreak live CD that does include 10.10 and out-of-the-box Asrock support when XBMC live will ship?

  16. ramon de klein says:

Just ran the beta 4 live CD in a VirtualBox and it shows v2.6.32-25 so the Asrock drivers should work :-)

  17. drabina says:

Could somebody let me know if it would be possible to update Beta 4 LiveCD version to a newer one when it comes out? I would like to try Dharma but do not want to do two full installations (beta and then stable when it comes out). Thanks.

  18. osirisjem says:

Anyone know how I can upgrade from erhnam’s NVIDIA ION optimized XBMC Live 9.11 Live CD / Live USB version – (version 11) to this latest XBMC 10.00 b4 ? I have an Asrock ION 330 HT. Thanks !

PS. If I download and install the .iso won’t it overwrite my movie files ?

  19. osirisjem says:

Does anyone know how I might just update my Asrock ION 330 HT remote drivers ? (I have that resume problem).

    Install an appropriate graphics driver.
    Enig idee?

  25. adgr says:

    @angelo

  27. adgr says:

Welke drivers he je geinstalleerd?
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-current-modaliases nvidia-settings

    Bedankt in ieder geval.

  29. adgr says:

    deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
    deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu karmic main

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-256 nvidia-256-modaliases nvidia-settings

  30. simmetje says:

ramon de klein :Just ran the beta 4 live CD in a VirtualBox and it shows v2.6.32-25 so the Asrock drivers should work

First release that supports Asrock remote drivers is only from Kernel 2.6.36 … so I don’t think so!

  32. Stephan says:

The first official kernel with Novoton IR support will be 2.6.37. But its possible to backport the driver to 2.6.36 (like OpenELEC.tv does) or maybe also on 2.6.35 (for Maverick). To include this driver to Maverick its needed to write Bugreports and Feature requests to the Ubuntu devs, not to XBMC and XBMCFreak devs.

  33. Digitaltux says:

what can i do to find the problem? any suggestion are welcome ;)

  34. Luqq says:

I have nuvoton fully working on 2.6.35 on 10.10 maverick. Followed this guide to compile my own kernel:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9972151&postcount=3

    Good luck!

  35. ramon de klein says:

Yesterday, I installed beta 4 on an Asrock ION 330HT and it worked fine. I did need to do the next few things to get things working smoothly.

Install the Asrock drivers: You can get them using “wget ‘http://europe.asrock.com/downloadsite/drivers/Nettop/Ubuntu/IR(10.04)2.6.32-25.zip'“. Read the instruction on the Asrock website and install them using ‘dpkg -i …’.

Install the Samba server, so you can access the internal drive from you PC ‘apt-get update’ and ‘apt-get install samba’. Edit the /etc/samba/smbd.conf to your likings.

Sound was muted, but after setting everything to HDMI in the system menu and demute the channels in de audio mixer (program add-on that is already installed) and everything worked fine. I am very pleased with beta 4.

  36. Ritzie says:

I can’t get the drivers to install on beta 4 for the ion 330ht.

  37. Ritzie says:

Disregard I got it to work after I did a dist upgrade

  38. Stephan says:

    @Luqq
    @ramon de klein

what i mean… if ubuntu includes the drivers by default, you must never more install or compile the drivers after an kernel upgrade. its working by default. with both solutions – using the crap drivers from ASRock – or compile out of the kernel tree – you must compile this everytime with an kernel upgrade.

why not fill an ticket or feature request, this will save your time in the future… i have no problems with this, because i dont use ubuntu, but it seems the ubuntu folks likes more the hard and hacky way…

  39. ssn says:

I installed new drivers from asrock on xbmc. The remote control works, but poorly. Sometimes a button will not work and sometimes work twice. Besides, after suspend, it wakes up, but I can only use the buttons when I press the button with a red dot on my original remote control. Something is wrong.

  40. Basz says:

Does anyone know if there allready .sup support with .mkv files?
