Very good news! The new AudioEngine finally made it’s way to XBMC. This means the next version of XBMC (Frodo) will ship with the new AudioEngine by default. The new AudioEngine is able to decode the latest hd formats, can do bitperfect streaming to receivers and is able to detect the current and available audio sources for each system. No more hassle with Alsa!! A big thanks to Geoffrey McRae who worked on this project for a very long time.
btw; We’re also working on the next version of XBMCbuntu which will use Ubuntu 12.04 and the new AudioEngine!!
Very long time = 2 years and 22,000 lines of code.
A small correction though, AE doesn’t add decoding support of any kind, only HD passthrough support.
Great! Can I update my XBMCBuntu version with a terminal command? Normal apt-get upgrade won’t update to this version, right?
Mooie ontwikkelingen de laatste tijd voor xbmc, kan bijna niet wachten om ermee aan de slag te gaan. Misschien binnenkort een beta versie xbmcUbuntu met AE erin verwerkt
Hi,
AE will also be available to XBMC iOS (appleTV) version?
thanks
So far, not so good… I tried today’s nightly Frodo “XBMCSetup-20120511-68c6f28-master.exe” under Windows XP, and it simply crashed initializing my ‘simple’ Intel HD audio card of my Core2Duo laptop. Until now, XBMC’s / OpenELEC’s Eden didn’t have any problem on that sound part.
Thats great news!!!! thank you for making the world a better place!
Thank you very much for your hard work. May a made a suggestion for the next xbmcbuntu release? would it be possible to add ajaxplorer or another web based file manager? it would help so much in managing media files
all the work is appreciated…..creating simplicity for all is a long process…having just spent 3 years on a machine development!!
Now….I await someone to do something similar to fix remotes!!
lirc = slow death
lol
Hmm ok en van welke repository moet ik apt-get updaten en apt-get upgraden om ook te kunnen genieten van AE?
ppa:team-xbmc/unstable of moet ik ppa:team-xbmc-svn/ppa hebben?
