Experimental XBMCFreak livecd with AMD Fusion and latest Nvidia ION drivers

This is my first experimental XBMCFreak livecd with support for the AMD Fusion platform. The latest AMD catalist 11.8 drivers are included and the livecd also features support for the VA-API. Nvidia is supported as well. The 270.29 drivers are included in this livecd.

The livecd comes with a xbmc package from the unstable (development) branch. This pre-Eden package is compiled with va-api and vdpau support and also contains Airplay support. So if you’re interested in this you might give this a try. Please use at your own risk and post additional findings over here!

as you saying this has nvidia support would this work on my Asrock 330ht

2. Tom says:

same question, ASROCK ION 330HT will be ok with this?

3. Kraken says:

I have a nT-A3500 with amd fusion platform, but i can only choose vdpau as HW accel, is va-api enabled as default ?

VAAPI is enabled by default. Please check the xbmc.log for the following line:

NOTICE: GL: Using VAAPI render method

5. Tom :

same question, ASROCK ION 330HT will be ok with this?

Yes, this should work on any Nvidia ION machine.

6. Mathijs says:

Piethein,

“XBMC needs hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering, install an approprite graphics driver. Please consult XBMC wiki for supported hardware”

loading cpufreq kernel modules… [fail]

13. Diekund says:

Hi,

Thanks for your efforts. Will this work for my Acer Aspire Revo R3610??

Thanks

14. trib says:

It’s sooo good to know that you are working on livecd version for AMD fusion. Many thanks for that. Just to give you a feedback, I try to install this livecd on my Asus E35M1-I DELUXE. Durring installation I’m getting error message about cdrom missing (I install this with pendrive). With direct start from pendrive I also got error message and nothing happen.

15. lowfi says:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc

16. Peter says:

Thanks for the live cd.
I’ve tried but it doesn’t seem to work on ASRock E350M1 board. It hangs loading live CD after this message in Alt+F7 console:
amixer: unable to find simple control ‘IEC958′, 1

17. Mitch says:

Update :

De remote werkt nu door :
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc
Windows Media Center Transceivers/Remotes
none

Hi, I’m new to XBMC. I’ve got an Zotac HD ID40 with Nvidia Ion:

http://pden.zotac.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_images.tpl&product_id=287&category_id=118&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

First i used XBMC under Windows 7 and everything worked. Now i installed as OS with your XBMC Live CD. But now i’ve got no sound and the Windows MC Remote doesn’t work anymore. What settings should i use for the sound to work (i already tried some, but nothing works). The HTPC is hooked up to a receiver. And how can i get the Remote to work again?

Thanks and Regards from Switzerland

I´m having the same issue with a Revo R3700. Ive installed Openelec XBMC instead and with that both sound and MCE remote works from scratch.

@Piethein Strengholt

Did you get it working on you device? I also have an Foxcon nT-A3550. After deleting almost everything in /etc/rc.local it stoll does not boot.

21. ferry says:

Doesn’t work on an old P4 shuttle with a Nvidia GT 210 graphics card, loads splash screen then goes on to a check list, with [OK] next to items, doesn’t go any further.

22. Slyzer says:

@Diekund
Yes, I have one and this works great!
Make the USB Installation drive with Lili instead of Unetbootin and you’re good to go!

23. SteelWolf says:

I was able to get this to install correctly using Unetbootin to write the iso to a flash drive. I do have some questions/feedback on this – is there any way to contact you directly?

Thanks.

24. AJ1000 says:

Did not work on my R3610, got errors on the check list including ‘unable to load LIRC kernel modules’, invalid card number, and ‘cannot create /sys/class/rc/rc0/protocols: Directory nonexistent’.

I tried it both with a CD and a USB key made using lili (which is very good).

25. Erik B says:

Hi! Thank you for your efforts.
I have been tampering all weekend and cannot get this perfectly to work.

I am running a Asrock E350M1, fusion platform with a Radeon HD 6310.

When I’m trying the latest OpenElec build for Fusion x86 (http://www.mediafire.com/openelec#d5pmbbb0ay9at,1 ) and running a 720p MKV everything is OK and CPU load is constantly at ~12%

With his livecd the same MKV requires CPU load of 70-100% (yes, movie is sometimes lagging).

Question is – there must be some driver that the latest version of Openelec is using that your release isn’t?

I would prefer to use your build, since I need to add other server software to my system, which openelec won’t let me do.
Thnak you for any help.

26. Erik B says:

(could it be that your release is using CDPAU instead of VAAPI ??)

I do not get the crashing problems with my HD-ID40. But i can in no way get the sound to work via HDMI passthrough with any of the possible configurations. Could you tell me what settings you’ve used in the audio settings to get audio to work?

Try to create a new alsa configuration file with:

nano ~/.asoundrc

copy the content below and save, close with control + x:

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave {
pcm “hdmi”

Same experience on my side with ASROCK ION 330HT + Logitech Harmony. No reaction on power toggle when xbmc is running. Turning on works.

39. Gavin says:

did you try the asrock remote ?

Suprisingly it does work. I thought if the Logitech turns it on then it should also turn it off. It seems that I was wrong. Is there any way to program the Logitech Harmony to turn it off also or some editing in some config files can solve this issue?

i to have the harmony one and a asrock 330ht what i done was set it up as media pc then i looked for ASROCK330HT and all was good but a friend had to do the same and learn the IR from the Asrock remote to the harmony
if you have no luck with that try and set a delay in the power tog

When I press CTRL + ALT + F1 my screen is black and there is no terminal visible. The same problem when I boot into safe mode… Anyone have the same effect?

48. SteelWolf says:

@halokitty

Try waiting a little longer. You could also follow this guide to keep the blank screen issue from happening permanently.

49. chester says:

same problem as mentioned here before with ZBOX nano ad10. xbmc live does not start:

cannot create /sys/class/rc/rc0/protocols: Directory nonexistent

amixer: unable to find simple control ‘IEC958′, 1

already added the .asoundrc as suggested here. The alsamixer then seems to work correctly. Furthermore i tried to boot after removing cpufreq (which failed as well) and lirc.

Any ideas?

50. blokr says:

Yes for me the same problem no terminal at all, solved it with putty!

@ anybody
Wake-on LAN script is not on board and the script “xbmc.script.wol” gives the error “script is in the wrong format”.
Anybody how to install an WOL script in this version? ThanX
