Manual Bootable USB key creation

Ubuntu 10.04 has some issues with unetbootin, so if you like to boot ubuntu 10.04 using a usb do the following:

You’ll need a working Ubuntu system for this!

- format the usb as FAT32

- create a directory called /mnt/usbkey/

- mount the usb disk (/dev/sdb1) as /mnt/usbkey

b” is letter used by the system. Most of the time it’s /dev/sdb1 or /dev/sdc1. If you want to know the correct letter just type: df -h

- After mounting type:

grub-install --recheck --root-directory=/mnt/usbkey /dev/sdb

Don’t use any numbers at the end. So /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc

Next step is to mount xbmcfreak 10.08 iso. You can do this either on Windows or Linux.

- Copy everything from the iso except the directory /boot.

- Copy the /boot/grub/grub.cfg from the iso to the /boot/grub directory on the flash

Now you should be able to use and install from your usb key!
