Boxee 1.1 (17443) Ubuntu compiled package

I compiled the latest Boxee 1.1 source on my ubuntu build system and it seems to work quite well. If you’re interested you can download the package below. Be sure that XBMC is not running at the same time!

If you like to try out Boxee on your xbmc-live machine try the following:

wget http://xbmcfreak.binkey.nl/boxee-ubuntu-i386-17443.tar.gz
tar zxvf http://xbmcfreak.binkey.nl/boxee-ubuntu-i386-17443.tar.gz
sudo mv /usr/bin/xbmc /usr/bin/xbmc-backup
sudo cp Boxee /usr/bin/xbmc
reboot

    it’s ok if size of old Boxee binary (0.9.22.13692) is 18M, and new file is 150M ?

    Thanks man will give it a go later. Easy enough to switch back your live system to xbmc. would be cool to some how have menu to choose xbmclive or boxee.

    to quit XBMC from running :)

    the command should be rather
    tar zxvf boxee-ubuntu-i386-17443.tar.gz

    anway, after all the screen remains black and blinking. no success yet

    Same here, just get a black screen. Restored xbmc fine. Could even ctrl alt F1 etc so thinking video mode may not be set right?

    I haven’t checked this yet but did you all try also move xbmc personal settings from user folder /home/xbmc/.xbmc? Maybe this is the problem?

    I will try that later – Im not too good with linux but can prob do that via sftp and just rename it.

    Checked, it doesn’t work. I tried on XBMC Live 10.0 installed on hard drive ASRock 330HT, video via HDMI. The same as you, black screen.

    connect to the acer revo with a terminal session (putty e.g.)
    sudo cp /usr/bin/xbmc
    sudo mv /usr/bin/xbmc-backup /usr/bin/xbmc
    sudo reboot
